Description

 3 hour sessions, available up to 5 days a week over a 12 week semester.

Course participants gain valuable practical life admin skills, with the course delivered face-to-face by an experienced trainer. At the beginning of the course participants complete a skills acquisition survey and at the end of the course receive a skills acquisition certification.

 

Who's it for?

This course is aimed at young adults aged 17-20 years, who:
• Have a learning disability or difficulties that may be attributed to a mental health, developmental, cognitive or autism spectrum disorder
• Want to learn the skills needed to navigate the adult world independently.

 

Meet Your Trainer!

Thomas (Tom) Joyce has over fourteen years of experience in training and curriculum writing.
This includes six years as a Job Search Trainer, a year in the Solomon Islands as the Assistant Curriculum Coordinator in the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, and more recently has applied his extensive knowledge and skills in various roles with Disability Employment Service providers.
Tom’s career speaks to demonstrated application of empathy, social inclusion and social justice values.

Every session will follow the same structure:

20 mins ·       Settle in, catch up and share news
·       Group warm-up activity
·       Talk about the goals and activities for this session
·       Allocate jobs for pack up time
·       Complete sign-in form
1 hour Activity 1
20 min Break
1 hour Activity 2
20 mins ·       Recap on the session’s activities
·       Work together to pack up the space
·       Complete sign-out sheet

Topics include travelling independently, accessing supports in the community, problem solving, staying safe, attending appointments, managing relationships and many other essential ‘life admin’ tasks.

Dates and Times

The course operates 12:30pm – 3:00pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) over a semester.
Semester 1 2023 starts Monday 9th January and ends Friday 24 March.
Course participants can choose how many days per week they want to attend.
Join any time in a semester and complete your remaining weeks in the following semester.
